Context Capital Partners, a Philadelphia-based seeding firm, has teamed up with the former AlphaMetrix Events Management group to launch Context Summits.

Context Summits, which seeks to replicate the success enjoyed by the AlphaMetrix conferences, will take place at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach between January 29 and 31, 2014.

Mark Salameh and Geoff Marcus of AlphaMetrix Events Management will continue in their roles and the event will retain its one-on-one meeting format.

AlphaMetrix, a Chicago-based managed account platform entered into liquidation at the end of last month following revelations it had cash-flow problems. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is presently suing AlphaMetrix for allegedly misappropriating $2.8 million of its commodity pool participants’ cash.

It was reported at the beginning of this month that California-based White Oak Global Advisors is a major creditor of both AlphaMetrix Group and AlphaMetrix360, its fund administration business.

There is speculation as to what will happen to the AlphaMetrix managed account platform.  The on-going litigation proceedings and potential reputational risk that could arise from any regulatory sanctions could deter would-be buyers from taking on the business.

The AlphaMetrix events though were widely applauded by attendees for the calibre of their guest speakers such as Former Prime Minister Tony Blair and President Bill Clinton, not to mention the networking opportunities it afforded to delegates.

Since inception in 2005, Context Capital Partners has led 13 seed deals totalling $300 million in a combination of hedge funds, liquid alternative mutual funds and private equity vehicles.
